Work

Robert:

I work no matter what, because that’s what we, men, are supposed to do. In fact, we need to work more — so future generations aren’t faced with work that is even more threatening. Work should ideally be a favorite pastime; working time directives and many child labor restrictions should be axed.

Work ethic is essential; there is no excuse for bad work.

A lot of good work sadly goes unsung: few think about the unseen effort that it takes to keep society running smoothly. To all the invisible workers: thank you for your service.

Freedom spurs good work and creativity. Minimum wage legislation should be cancelled: it steals opportunities from beginners.

I seek work for what I will learn more than for what I will earn. I work selectively, in a flow state.

All of this said, the time people have to spend working should tend to zero: there should be no need for human work at all. Saying “TGIF” is a symptom of wage slavery.

People are taught to fear apocalypse, to associate it with gloom and destruction.

But the Greek word simply means “revelation”.

The apocalypse will be the best event in mankind’s history.

The future of the web

Robert:

This is a sponsored post. The text is mine

Recently, I’ve written a manifesto about being immune to cancel culture. Understanding the gloomy reality, I decided to stop it from affecting me.

In today’s centralised web, the only sure way to avoid being deplatformed is to run a server at home, something that may not always be possible to do. Searching for other ways to resist external restrictions, I found out about Stacks, a network that creates a financial incentive to decentralise the web. Just like miners are paid a fee for running bitcoin nodes, Stackers are paid a fee to run Stacks.

Stacks is versatile: it can be used to run websites with the decentralised storage system Gaia, but also to place smart contracts such as paid subscriptions, auctions, and access control.

It’s time to start transitioning to the decentralised Web 3.0. Learn more on Stacks.co

E-sports

Robert:

Gaming, something that many believe to be a waste of time, is being rebranded as e-sports, something that sounds prestigious.

This rebranding, along with the creation of high-quality shooter games, is what it takes to have young people (unknowingly) commit to the future of warcraft.

Future wars, after all, will be fought remotely to avoid casualties. Watch closely: today’s Fortnite champions will be tomorrow’s robot-commanding generals. Ernest Cline’s novel Armada was a prophecy.

Robert:

I accidentally took this photo when strolling by a London canal:

It is, as you can tell, pretty horrible. Instinctively I would delete it, but before I did, a thought flashed through my head: machine learning will be able to fix this photo in the future. I don’t know when, but I’m sure it will. Besides, I’m not running out of storage.

I had the same thought about a broken SD card of mine: it might be unfixable today, but only today.

There is no conclusion to this post, it’s just a thought experiment that I’m now running.

Today’s phones can be woken by tapping the screen. Future phones will be unlocked by tapping in a pattern similar to Morse code.

Apple’s strategy for the future

Robert:

At WWDC this June, Apple announced that it would let developers easily port iOS apps to the Mac. This new procedure opens up a door to a broader intention: porting stuff from different platforms to others.

When Apple makes software the usefulness of which may not be obvious, think ahead. To make good AR goggles, Apple needs apps. But talking about future products is harmful, so Apple can’t invite over too many developers to work on the alpha. That’s why Apple introduced ARKit now. Apps are made now, to be used now. This makes people interested in new technologies, now. It isn’t comfortable to poke around with an Ikea sofa model on a phone, but it will be with goggles.

Think Memoji is stupid? I did think so too, until I realised how it will scale in the future. Apple is getting people prepared to get used to having a live virtual avatar. In two years, it will be indispensable for AR interactions.

When 2020 comes, all Apple has to do is make a porting mechanism for ARKit iOS apps to aOS, and sell the goggles. Instant success.
